Getting Started

At CrossFit Whangarei we encourage your biggest effort. We are strong advocates of scaling exercises to suit individual levels of fitness and ability. We can tell you’re interested so contact us to arrange a free visit. There are no obligations on your first visit.

Come prepared to work hard – bring your workout gear, cross-training shoes and an open mind. Allow 60 minutes for a class. The first part of the class will involve coached movements that you will need to know to participate in the workout. This will involve a variety of movements such as gymnastics, plyometrics, powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting. The second part of the class will be the WOD which can range from 12mins to 20mins long. The WODs change daily, so it’s like a box of chocolates – but not 😛 . Always expect the unexpected when it comes to the WOD.

For those of you who are often mystified with CrossFit jargon, here are a few terms to get you started:

Box – A CrossFit Gym – it’s literally a box

WOD – workout of the day

RX – the suggested parameters for a given exercise

SC – Scaled

AMRAP – As many rounds as possible

PB – Personal Best

EMOM – Every minute on the minute

RFT – Rounds for time
